RKL to PC Communication Question

Can the reefkeeper lite (basic) constantly send data to your PC via hardwire or is a net module required?

If it comes with a phone line cable (look alike)and adapter, it works. But u need to install a program from their site, my reef 2.0 and follow instructions...
Once u get to it, u ll enjoy looking at that graphics. ..very neat though.
