ro/di system question

When i see the different ro/di units online I have noticed that some have a solid canister on top and some have clear, If Im correct those are the DI filters. Is there Pro's and cons to the different style's?

You will want at least a 4 stage set up

1 prefilter, removes particulates
2 carbon, removes color, smell, chemicals
3 RO (solid canister), Reverse Osmosis brings water to near 0 TDS
4 DI, Deionization brings your RO water to 0 TDS

also get an in-line TDS meter. So you can know your source and output water quality.
useful information, will also help determine when to change RO or DI

booster pump optional, also depends on your water pressure whether it is beneficial or not, and also how much water you will to regularly make.

I use a booster, brings my pressure from 50+ to 100+, I need the high pressure as I often make 30-70g at a time.

Thanks. I am aware of how they work and all that, the question I have is some have a clear container on top and other have a solid container . Only thing I can think is the one that clear is the style where you put in di resin, where as the solid containor uses the Di filter? I have used ro/di in the past, but now that I want to buy a new set up, prices are all over the place and in my opinion a lot has to do with what name is on the frt

It does not mater except for color changing di resin.

If you use color changing di resin you know when it is used up if it’s clear

Also, when you say the canisters are on top, suggest that they are the smaller ones that lay horizontally. Those are usually notorious for channeling (water takes a particular path through th3 caniater l, never coming into contact with the charged resin)

It's best to select an rodi with the traditional 10" canisters so that you can avoid channeling.

Not sure if that’s true. Have horizontal di canister for at least 20 years. It’s clear, I use color changing resin, and it changes evenly. Last a long time, and works well.

The RO is always in a solid canister.
Clear canisters are typically used for the prefilter, carbon and DI.
So you can visually see when the prefilter is done and to color monitor your color changing DI resin. Thats all.

So I did a google search to see what you are talking about.
Yes, the clear one up top is for DI. Only advantage I see in the typical 4 stage set up, is that it provides a slightly smaller footprint.

From what I can see, the "ontop" DI canisters are slimmer, meaning you would need to use resin refills and cannot use premade DI filter.
