Rock-a-bye baby, in the treetop
When the wind blows, the cradle will rock
When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall
And down will come baby, cradle and all

My girlfriend brought this up this morning, along with a very good point. Now lets translate this into a literal sense and figure out what exactly is supposed to make a baby want to sleep, knowing they will come crashing down from the tree.

Rockabye baby: ok sounds good so far, rocking is soothing. Makes even grow ups sleepy.

In the tree top: why would a baby go up that high? This is already getting fishy. Babies aren't good climbers.

When the wind blows the cradle will walk: ah yes, early signs of automated baby rocking. Still, in a tree? This is getting dangerous!

When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall: Sir Isaac Newton will be glad you know this much. Maybe you should have a reinforced your BABY!

And down will come baby, cradle and all: that's gotta hurt, or wake a baby up at the very least.

So next time your baby can't sleep, dissect the lullaby you are signing to them. It may just be too morbid.

This is so funny because I was just talking to my wife about this last night like "man thats a screwed up song" she was like OMG I never thought about it like that.

Have you also noticed twinkle twinkle little star and if you sing your abc s its the same tune just different words.

LOL when we had my wifes baby shower her smarta** cousin wrote in the baby book, "Santa is fake" you parents sit on a throne of lies....

Careful if you get thinking this way you might find the REAL TRUTH about a whole lot of other things! Don't do it! Cattle have a much easier life over all.

Some of these nursery rhymes are about horrible things. Such as ring around the Rosie, its about the plague. People who got the plague would get bright red puss filled sores on their cheaks and on their bodies called rosies. ring around the Rosie. Those with the plague would put posies in ther packets to let others know they had the plague and to not make contact, pocket full of posies. Those that died from the plague would be burned, ashes ashes. Of course those that had the plague all died, they all fall down.
Not quit the greatest song to sing to a child when the meaning is known..
