Hey everyone! Looking for some ro advice. I have a spectapure 4 stage ro unit with a BRS water saver membrane and a booster pump on it. I just replaced the membranes and all the filters . I’m getting a tds reading of 11 or 12 . I used 100 gpd membranes to try and increase production. Would I get cleaner water with 75 gpd membranes or is there something more I can do to get closer to 0 readings? Thanks for any advice!

11/12 tds in your product post DI resin? A) is the system plumbed correctly with the tds sensors in the right spot
B) is your resin depleted? I tend to get 7-11 tds post RO membrane but then the di polishes it to 0 tds

Yes that reading is the finished product after DI and I have all new membranes, filters and Di resin installed. So , I’m wondering if I used the slower 75gpd membranes instead of the 100 gpd if I’d get better readings?

no has nothing to do with the RO output.

The DI should be able to take pure tap water and turn it to 0 tds.

Sounds like something is wonky or the mixed bed DI is not working properly. Did you disconnect any tubing while replacing the filters and membranes?

Just the ones going into the membranes. But there was some confusion when I was hooking up the BRS water saver and the little buddy booster pump. So I was actually thinking I may have screwed up something there ? But I was only getting a 9 reading before I hooked up those 2 items. So idk rather confusing?

Just took some, I wonder if the waste red waste line is reversed on the water saver membrane?

Hard to tell if your watersaver is correct. You have in to membrane 1 which then has a productline and waste. The waste from membrane 1 goes into membrane 2 which then waste is out and product merges with product from 1 to go into the DI

Yes that’s how I have it hooked up I went through it again today to make I had it right. Looks confusing I know because I used 4 different color tubes

Can you take a picture of the DI canister? Maybe something going on there and the DI is not working properly. Did you buy a prepacked mixed bed DI cartridge?

Any way you can check the tds source water and the tds of the RO water going into the DI canister?

Kinda hard to get good pic but 2 blue product lines from membranes go in one side of di then blue line out to booster pump. And I use the pre packaged refills from BRS . I always have to let it run a few minutes my tds starts out really high and then it’s only getting down to 11 or 12

How much water have you put through that DI cartridge? It's already half used. That's probably why you are getting some TDS on the RODI output. With a single mixed bed DI canister, once the resin starts to get significantly exhausted some TDS will get past the remaining resin depending on how fast the flow is. If it is pretty fast it will happen sooner than later. My guess is with the two membranes and the booster pump your getting pretty good output into the DI canister. Maybe too much for a single mixed bed cartridge to handle?

I think it's worth checking your source water TDS and your RO TDS if you haven't to make sure your system is operating correctly up to that point.

Yes with regard to TDS creep. When your system sits a while the RO water is initially very high TDS. Running this water into the DI will burn through resin much faster. I run a T splitter with valve after RO before DI so I can let the RO run a few minutes before sending the RO water to the DI section. Will save a lot of DI resin. The RO water with higher tds is good for watering plants, making coffee etc.

Ohh yeah that’s a great idea having that T there. Yeah that’s what I’m thinking I’m going to add another DI cartridge. I actually have an old 3 stage RO unit that’s been collecting dust for years now. I think I utilize it and maybe even add another carbon block. Thanks for all your input!!

Oh, and that DI resin in the picture was just installed march 3rd
