I upgraded my RODI system again today for some reason and it's probably way overkill but oh well! I had previously added a second RO membrane since I had plenty of pressure already and then I went from a dual mixed resin bed to a three stage with anion, cation and then mixed.

Today I added two more pre filter canisters to the front of my system as I have anywhere from 250-350+ TDS from the tap. I added a 20 micron washable filter and then another canister to add a second sediment filter that I put a 5 micron sediment filter in. I then adjusted the original three pre filters that used to be sediment filter to 5 micron carbon to 1 micron carbon. The final progression is now 20 micron filter, 5 micron sediment, 5 micron carbon, 1 micron sediment, 1 micron carbon and then into the dual RO chambers and finally the triple resin setup. I have a triple and dual HM TDS meters as well as the Hydros TDS meter to track TDS before prefilters, after prefilters/before RO membranes, after RO membranes and between all the resins. The Hydros TDS meter can shut off the feed solenoid if TDS gets over zero.

Here are some before pictures

And after. I also labelled them with a label maker.

Am I catching this right-- you have brought TDS of 350+ coming in down to 0 going out? If so, nice job. 👍🏻

Yes. I've always had zero TDS after the triple resin canisters but now it seems like I have it down to zero after the RO membranes before it even gets to the resin stages which is nice as resin is a pain to change and more expensive than RO membranes!

Now this is what I am talking about!!! this helps a lot!

My TDS is about the same coming out of my well. I am building my ultimate Rodi system and think i am going to follow your steps.

I currently have a hodge podge75GPD rodi I cobbled together from two 4 stage units but missing the second Membrane.. Well I just picked up another BRS 75GPD 4 stage with a BRS triple DI saver add on and a larger prefilter.

I need to ad a booster pump but I think I am going to follow your recipe! going to run the membranes in series.

first picture is my old system, second is the new. Have 4 TDS measuring sensors and plan to stagger them between stages.

I was lucky and I had plenty of pressure so I could add a second 75GPD RO membrane without a booster pump and I still get 60 psi. I do plan to still upgrade some minor things like adding 1 or 2 more pressure gauges at specific spots to monitor pressure at different spots but I couldn't be happier with what I have created so far!
I really like splitting up the cation and anion resins. I go through one of them about 20x faster than the other.
I agree and that's why I ended up doing it. I think I burn through the cation and barely touch the anion!
I am looking forward to seeing how splitting up the resins go for me. I think it will be a game changer.
It was for me! I still have the mixed resin bed but it'll be much cheaper just replacing the single stage that gets used much faster and it will be cheaper in the long run doing it this way!

Holly crap, and I thought my setup was extreme. Love the idea of the 20micron filter, just ordered one.

was seeing 10 -12 tds out of the RO membrane(single) at 90 psi. ran the 50G drum as a Co2 degass chamber but still blew thru half a cartridge of anion and a fill mixed bed in 60G.

may stay with only running RO. the tanks been running on 350+tds for years, 10-15 isnt going to hurt anything. i have cartridges to replace, need to order a 99% membrane and try again but if it is the same results i will run thru the RO and stop. do not want to spend $20 / 100G for water. Especially doing 3gpd AWC and another 4G ato daily plus my daughters two tanks using 5G each a week.
