RODI waste line dripping sometimes

I had to move my RODI unit to my basement. I typically shut off water to my RODI by flipping a valve right at the final float valve. The problem is that sometimes when it is off I come down and find the waster water dripping or even slowly running. I THINK this might be because the plumber ran this line off the same one that feeds my two washing machines and the pressure is dropping. Is there an easy fix for this? I seem to remember that it's not ok to flip off the RODI at the source right? like just cut the water to the unit entirely? If I could do that I could just only make water at night when the washers aren't running.

The water pressure may be enough to force a little past the float valve.
I shut mine off at the source so there is no water going to the RO unit.

Ok is that alright for the membranes? For some reason I had a memory that it was bad for them but I may be totally off-base! I'd be very happy with this cheap solution!

this is an automatic shutoff switch failure.

I’ve gone through 4-5 in the past decade or so, they do eventually die… I see my waste water line discharging water when the RO system hasn’t been in use for hours!

Ok I was wondering if it's definitely the valve failing or perhaps caused by pressure in the line dropping when someone runs the washing machine and deactivating the valve.

There shouldn’t be an appreciable drop in water supply line pressure, at least to the point where this occurs!

You can test not running the washer for a while, and see if the waste line’s still flowing!

Ok cool. I hadn't had the patience to just sit down there and watch but sometimes when i come down it's running a little, sometimes it's not. I just ordered a new valve from home Depot so I'll try swapping it out.

Also knowing that I can just shut off the source without damaging the membranes is a game changer.
