Ok, so hoping to fill tank this weekend.
City water, municipal water quality report pretty good. No chloramine, trace chlorine.

I'm assuming I'm probably ok w 4 stage.

Have seen some used for fair savings. Is that worth it, or is that usually a rat's nest of tube and kalk sludge?

Also, for a 65g tank, is the 75gpd sufficient? Would be nice to be able to meet my ato and wc needs without having to rely on shut off valve when not at home.

Ty,
Bj

A rodi system is one part of the life support for this hobby.

If you are local to a used one and you can inspect it before buying then I'd buy used. If not buy new.

Are you planning on having a tank for water to have some on standby for when you need it or are you planning to make it when you need it?

Once you fill your tank you just need some for water changes ever 2-3 weeks or whatever you are thinking.

You should always have some on standby for emergencies

Hope this helps.

Haven't found anything great local. The promising ads are like a 70 min drive. Don't really want to kill half a Saturday if used rodi are notoriously hinky.

The plan is to run ato off 5g jug near dt and keep 30 - 40g salinated for wc in the basement.

What kind of evaporation might I expect on a 3' standard 65g?

RODI systems may look messy, but once you understand them you'll really appreciate having one. I have an almost 1000gpd system and keep water in a 45g tank. The reject water goes in a 200g cistern tank and I use it to wash clothes. I don't have an automatic shut off, but I know the system makes about 40gph so it only takes an hour or so to fill my holding tank. If I don't shut it off I end up with a very wet garage floor and a very annoyed wife! So I set a timer with a loud alarm on my cell phone. I haven't overflowed the system in several years. LOL!

spectrapure 90GPD. you can pick up a 4 stage for 165 on the web....I did. best thing I have bought. I filled a 75 in 20-22 hours. Depending on your water pressure.

Nothing wrong with going used. If the filters are near end of life then the price should reflect that since you'll need to replace them.

I picked up a used spectrapure 90gpd with builtin tds meter and brand new set of filters and membrane for $60.

75 gpd is fine. I store about 40 gallons of RODI and 40 gallons of mixed saltwater in Brute trash cans. For autotopoff storage you can use a glass aquarium and run a looong line from even another room to the sump for your tank. For smaller tanks a food safe 5 gallon bucket works fine.

I have a 6 stage, fills a 20 gal bucket around 4 hours. I have a 5 gal for my ATO that is finished in around 45 mins. I live in Florida so our water is NASTY. Then I flooded my bathroom ONCE after I forgot to turn it off so I said, "never again." Bought a float valve and drilled it to the side of the bucket, now I set it and forget it until it's finished filling. Amazon was my go-to for everything. 6 Stage RO/DI from LiquaGen and the 1/4" Kerick Valve works great. LiquaGen's 4 Stage is reasonably priced.

Here's my water change bucket:

I would always recommend a RODI unit! Tap water is just nasty and full of chlorine, pesticides, and who knows what else. The RODI unit removes it and strips it to be as pure as can be. You will see lots of different units but they all do the same thing! You want to look into solid filtration to match your city water specs.

Randy Holmes Farley has a good read on RODI

Let me know if I can be of any help my friend, cheers!
