history is always relevant to people trying to put down alabama, until national championships is brought up. then when it is twelve ncs to zero people get their feelings hurt and say history doesnt matter

THE TIDE IS COMING IN

no its not. how does previous national championships contribute to a season's wins and losses?

sure, you can argue it may help with exposure and recruiting, but wins/losses are determined on the field. exhibit A - Notre Dame and their dismal record this past year. you can have tons of great recruits, and if they can't get it done on the field during the current year......history doesn't mean squat.

fans who go on about their team's history usually don't have anything to say about their team's recent performance on the field. thus they have to talk about the "good ole days" of the past in which they used to be good.

History means alot ,without history what else is there.

uhhh....the present....lol

go up to any fan on gameday and ask them which they care more about, this season, or 10 seasons ago. or go up to any highschool recruit and ask them which is more important to them, the fact a team did good last year, or 30 years ago.

the answer is obvious.

With the possibilities of the 'present', my Rebels COULD be the next phenoms of the SEC:D. Just knowing we aren't doomed to win less than 4 games this year is at least uplifting (3-21 in SEC over last three years-Vandy was starting to scare us, even though they were the team we could beat...). Truly spoken-we hate each other when we play each other, but everyone I know cheers on the SEC out of conference everytime. Everyone else envies us:).

I think your Rebels made a great hire with Houston Nutt and Michael Oher is the best lineman in college football on either side of the ball. I wouldn't be surprised if he is the number selection in next years draft.

Oh I will bring this thread up at the end of this next season. It's only going to get better and better for us at Alabama right now. And any real college football fan without their team colored sunglasses on would agree that Alabama has a real shot at being on top again soon. We did have the number #1 recruiting class this year according to Scout and I think the number 3 according to Espn.

Just for the record though I like VT and always pull for them, but you started it!! :D

If you guys really want to talk about the "present" how about my Dawgs? We have one of if not the hardest schedules this year, but with Knowshon and King in the backfield with Stafford should be a good year. The scary part is our Defense is better than our O. Our depth is amazing, you are looking at 24+ guys that will see alot of playing time and 6 defensive tackles. Remember the name John Knox our Sophmore SS he is out of the same mold as Thomas Davis and Greg Blue.

I yea Georgia is going to be a team to beat for sure. I am guessing you will be ranked #3 preseason. Great team and I love Mark Richt. Good Christian man..... ;)

recruiting classes mean nothing. look at miami and florida. all it means is you don't have any excuses for not finishing in the top 25 in a year or two after bringing up that kind of talent.

UGA is a good team, i got nothing on them since we completely choked vs. them in the chi-fila bowl last year. but i will say we completely dominated them in the first half until our QB had the biggest meltdown of the season. if he had just taken a knee on every down in the 2nd half and punted every possesion instead of turning the ball over an insane number of times that game was easily in hand for a VT win.

the same QB did the same thing against LSU.....he just can't handle big time pressure. he'll be a back up QB in the arena league at best....but he thinks he will be a 1st rounder for sure (big ego). most VT fans knew the LSU game was going to be bad, Beamer has lost his swager now that he's getting old.....he didn't have the team prepared to play a big time team (he rarely does anymore...just look at our bowl records).

honestly, i love Beamer....but its time for him to retire and let Bud Foster take over (the #1 defensive coordinator in the country.....even the ole ball coach just offered him a position as the highest paid defensive coordinator in the country recently).

:)

you brought up history first lol. im ready to talk present now.
i hate that we have four months to wait but we do.
this is what i like about college football, if everyone liked the same team it would be no fun when we beat you.

liverock you are right a lot of teams are afraid of the dawgs this year and anyone who isnt is crazy, youve got the sec frontrunner this year

you are absolutely right. that game has no translational meaning into todays league. i just thought of the most recent head to head meeting b/w VT and Alabama just to make a point, but you are right....it really is meaningless. lol

gflat i live in montgomery too.

Cool. I have met one person down here with tanks and he does maintenance. I know there has to be more since Jim does so well. Which side of town? I'm in the Vaughn Meadows area. We will have to get together. Not that they are anything special right now, but I miss showing my tank off and having others show their off.

Houston Nutt has me excited. He is a very competent coach and may be able to do even more than he did at Arkansas with less 'internal friction'. Arkansas is a tough team. They may not win every game, but they play most people hard enough to beat them (they just don't get lucky like that 'Nothing Sucks Like A Big Orange' team). With LSU, Alabama, Auburn, and Arkansas, the west looks pretty good this year. State seems to even be coming around. Georgia's got a well maturing team with some nice potential, so they look tough, too. I'm a Tennessee boy who's never been a UT fan, so I don't have any clue how they are looking right now (hopefully like they ended the season:D). I love in conference SEC ball... You never know in the SEC. We all have a fighting chance against each other any given Saturday;)...

The SEC West is starting to look just like the East with the top teams.
I'm hoping my Dawgs have what it takes this year, but our schedule is sick. We have a run that includes @LSU, FL(in FL), @KY, @Auburn. We also have to play @SC and @Arizona St. back to back weekends and than come home to host Alabama. If we manage to run through our regular season than we have to face the best team in the West (which we probably will play during the regular season) before we can even think about a bowl game. I'm just glad that when we play GA Tech at the end of the season we don't have to see Wheeler and Robertson across the line.
