Rolland damsels

Chrysiptera rollandi.

Anyone keep these? I'm wondering if they are similar in behavior to other Chrysiptera species.

Similar in temperament to yellow tails ime but tend to spread out more than others. They seem to like to hold their own territory and spread out through the tank rather than a pair forming defending an area. I have admittedly only kept them in small numbers and with a larger group you might see different behaviour.

I have had them. I have found they are more comparable to talbots than yellow tails. I know thats spltting hairs, but talbots are slightly more peaceful than yt imo.

They are typically more peaceful than others. Randall's, Talbots, Azures, etc. I've keep trios of both Talbots and Azures. I lost my Talbots when I introduced a new fix without proper introduction practices. If you have a mature tank I think multiples of any in the Chrysiptera is possible. @ca1ore has 30 something in his tank!

Trios of rollands have been on dd lately, but I cant find them in larger quantities...

I've just added one of those trios to my display.

Two of 'em chill together, the other one hangs out solo in a mid-tank cave. They caught the usual flak from the "welcoming committee" of Talbott's and azure damsels. I've gotta say, I like these Rolland's a lot. They'll swim an inch or two and stop, and those long, gleaming white pelvic fins go fully erect at the pause. The Rolland's have offered no aggression to anyone, but they are pretty new. I'd say go for it!

I have had a trio in my big tank for a couple of months now. They've become my favorite damsel. Completely unaggressive to each other and to the other fish. Mine have stayed quite small and mostly hang within about 6 inches of the same bed. On the expensive side for damsels, but highly recommended if you can find them.

That's pretty cool! Just in the last day, the larger of my trio has dug a burrow underneath a rock; building a 'nest' perhaps?

Mine has his plaque on the side of a rock in a cluttered area near the bottom - the azure male has his on the roof (underside) of a shelf rock. My Rolland's haven't done any digging.

I'm looking for some more rollands. I cant find any with yellow on the head.

Is the yellow a trait of a regional variant and if so which region? Or is it dependent on age or some other factor.

Do any of the captive bred Rollandi have or get the yellow cap?

I believe it's regional, though I can't remember the region. Mine are captive-bred from LA, and have the yellow head, but they've seemed to offer the more smudgy looking ones recently.
