SO this is my second reef tank and i made a major rookie mistake by not having 2 thermometers, 2 days ago i noticed that my digital thermometer was flickering and changing temps so will at the pet store i decided to grab another thermometer. now i have noticed the last few months that my corals wernt doing great and i was attributing it to being a newer tank but when i put in the new thermometer i got the shock of 87*. my stylo is completely melted away, a small zoa colony just started to die off, green star polyps were melting and my candy canes are about dead. i got the temp down to 80*. my question is should i keep it at 80* or drop it lower and anything else i can do to try to save the few things i have left?
The stylo pic you see was from a week ago there isn’t that much left on it now

80 degrees is fine. Mine runs at 80 to 82 all the time.

As for your corals, just try to keep the other parameters in line. If anything big dies, get it out of the tank. Don't be too quick to pull corals that look dead. It may take weeks, but sometimes there was enough alive that you couldn't see and it will make a come back.

Good luck.

First get a few more thermometers. Maybe keep 3 in total. Make sure you rule out errors. 80 is fine. I keep mine at 83/84 in the summer and 80 in the winter. I would recheck the salt gravity of the tank.
