How are you guys mounting frags to live rock lately? Everything is encrusted on a big disc or frag plug now. Cut off stem with a Dremel or razor blade and then super glue? In the old days when you got a frag it was usually fresh off the colony. Superglue directly to rock and hope for the best.

I think you’re on the right path. Nothing to add except this gem

Bone cutters placed a third across the stem, point away from breakables and people, then squeeze. If possible, pry off frag from mount with knife blade by twisting and popping off into a container of tank water. Gel super glue pea sized to attach. Press and twist in, then hold for 30 seconds or so.

Your fingers will work.
Just bust it off, keep it out of water for a short amount of time, glue it and your set...

What kind of frag?

sps? GL.

Good lord Dexter... Are those German Stainless Steel :-)

Predominately SPS. This is a 6 mo observation tank while I try to figure out how to get the big build off the ground one of these days.

I snip off the stem from the plug, and then a glue-epoxy-glue sandwich if I'm feeling motivated, or just a dollop of glue on the bottom of the plug disc if I'm feeling lazy. I use Maxspect's glue gun, love that glue and hate getting glue on my fingers even more.

On rare occasions I might remove the frag from the plug entirely, but I prefer to leave the plug disc where possible.

Not gluing anything until my other tank is up but you can see the difference between the relatively "new ones" and the others that have been in for a few months. The longer these sit the more I am committed to having to save the frag plug base at least which I'm not a fan of.
