They hide when something scares or stresses them. I don't think we could answer without knowing more about your tank. Grammas like extensive rockwork caves to hide in. Actually, the more caves it has to dart into, the safer it feels and the more you see it. What else is in your tank? Any recent changes? New inhabitants? Changes in lighting? Do you know it is still alive/can you see into its hiding spot?

Wish I knew.
I bought one 3weeks ago. Saw it once the day after.
I assume mines a goner, but hope he's got a cave where food is coming to him.
They do take a while to come out from what I've read.
Good luck.

I only have a satrry blenie and a clown fish on my 40 gallon reef tank
I was fortunate. I got one this past Thursday. My rock scape has at least 6 caves. I have an aggressive yellow tang, a maroon clownfish, a lawnmower blenny and a banded coral shrimp. He hid the first day but in plain site. Aquascape is the key. Feeding time, him and the yellow tang had a run in and now he's out and about

The more you make him try to get out, the more determined he will be to hide.

What kind of clown? Both clowns and grammas can be territorial, and tank raised clowns can be little jerks. I have a similar sized tank, and there are times my percula and gramma show a little aggression. A ton of things could be happening. The clown could be chasing him when the lights are off, etc. It could be totally unrelated to the clown.
What's your pH, dKH, etc.? water quality can stress fish, too.

There is no good way to 'force' him to be out. He'll come out when he is ready.
