Hard telling lots of changes going on in the micro world. Especially new tanks. Maybe time 1 was cheato taking away from nitrifiers shifting balances. Maybe time 2 water change took bacteria out of the water, as well as nutrients for nitrifiers. Then again maybe they don't like high nutrients. I have read some things suggesting some cyanos dont like some things. Maybe it is toxic to them and slows growth. I don't really know. I run many high/low never had them just pop back up.(for long anyway) I do remember sometimes they did. Except in a tank I tried to do bare bottom. Doing that the slow steady way was challenging. Got all sorts of things coming and going for a while. All good now.
