Is there a reasonably safe configuration where a separate tank is used as a refugium or sump that is at the same level as an undrilled DT?
Background:
-- Planning to swap out my current 37 gallon TALL tank for a standard 40 gallon breeder for better dimensions, at some point (for easier maintenance and better fit in the "nook" in the house where it sits).
-- There is nowhere BELOW to put anything but a decent amount of room behind. (Everything's in the tank right now -- 2 HOBs and 2 heaters).
I'm wondering if it makes sense to try to do something with a separate tank (same size or smaller) BEHIND the DT.
Goals would be:
-- Hide equipment
-- More water (plus I like the idea of a refugium)
I've seen HOB overflows but, well,,, uh,,, gravity isn't going to be that useful to me in this scenario.
As an aside, I'm also thinking about just going with one of the drop-in AIO divider kits so, if anyone has experience with those, I'm interested as well. (I've seen back and side ones but not sure which I'd be leaning towards if I even decided to go that route).
