ive been using this or years ...but recently having problems with it...i follow the instructions right...so here's the question....when i go to add the 2ml of water and then the 1 spoon of ca 1...it turns blue right away...and says not to mix until i add the ca 2....suppose to add 6 ml of it right away ...well its already blue....which tells me im low...right....???....but when i go to add more from the syringe...like up to like 2 0r 3 ml....it turns pink.........then i can keep adding till it turns blue again.......why is this happening???..i never had this problems before ...even bought new test kit and same thing.......usually when i do this when i do the step its pink right away....never blue....it turn pinks and then turns blue......but not now........its turns blue then pink then blue...crap i hope this makes sense...thanks for any help............

If I am remembering correctly, the test kit instructions were changed.

i followed to the T.....and also bought a new one too...same instruction as the other one....nothings changed.......just saying

ive read on other post about this and it seem that i probably over shot the end point by puttin 6ml of ca2 in right away...so now im going to try to add it slowly and see what i get...i could be that im really low..........now the next question is ...why the hell is my calcium so low....its always been around 450......i only have a softies tank...so nothing really draining the calcium.....why would it get depleted....?????

What you're experiencing is normal. Ignore the first blue before you've added any Reagent #2. Add 0.6 mL right away after adding the reagent #1 and continue with the test. You're doing it right, and experiencing the right color changes; don't worry :)

thats not the problem..the problem is that when i put in the 6ml right away it stays blue there is no color change....so im thinking its low.....

You've said 6 mL a couple times now, so just verifying you mean 0.6 mL? Otherwise that's the issue and would cause it to go instantly blue.

Salifert changed their test a few years ago by combining the 2 liquid reagents from the old test into 1. The solution should turn pink after adding the first .6 ml. or so of titrant. You then continue to titrate until the solution turns blue again. If by chance the solution never turns pink it means that your calcium is very low. Went through this with a friend a couple of times when his calcium got too low. I switched to the Aqua Forest calcium test which is identical to the old Salifert test and does not have this issue.

this is what I'm thinking too...it too low....so instead of adding the .6ml right away ...im going to do it slowly and see when it turns pink....right now when i add the .6ml right away it turn purple....then pink after a couple more drops....so i must be getting close.....
