Pics cause Todd got me scraping,lol. 2nd pic of Bonsai stning. I'm assuming from alk too high while dosing vinegar. Alk and cal shut off for a week now trying to lower my numbers.
1st pic is a TDF from Joe Knows. Dead center of pic. The 2 frag plugs are for it to encrust on since it's growing past the plug.

That looks pretty bad. Have you taken them out and ckeaned them in vinegar? If so, how long did it take to return? Have you by chance asked Randy-Holmes-Farley about it to see if he can help?
Some time ago I had a terrible algae issue. HA and some dark green turf type. I couldn't get rid of it no mater what I did. Then on top of it the tank got a care of dinoflaggela! I was ready to smash the tank. Then upon reading up on a way to kill the dinoflaggela I came across hydrogen peroxide as a method of treatment. Long story short, I discovered it killed the algae too. Then I went to war and won. Maybe Randy will have a better solution but what I did worked. If you want to know how I did it just let me know.

Thanks Jackie. I had dinos (self diagnosed) and did the h2o2 dosing. Worked great. That was after a long fought HA battle I won only by using Mexican turbos. This stuff is a turf species and covers everything not living. The cyano takes car of everything else. The turf stuff stays short and I'd say medium brown. Tangs and Foxface could care less for it I believe. I'm 100% sure it's harboring N03 and P04. I haven't asked Randy. My coraline turns brown by the time it's a size of a spec!

Maybe you could try an experiment. In a bucket or 3 lb margarine bowl (or similar), put 25% H202 and 75% rodi and a brushed off rock in it over night. Then brush it off again and put it back in until afternoon. Rinse well with rodi and put it back in the tank. Watch to see what happens. It should die off. Cuc should also try cleaning it the rest of the way. If it works, you can do 1- 5g bucket of rock every few days. This is what killed mine off along with using good snails after the soak. It never returned. The bios of the rock will return once back in the tank. You might also do a wc or 2 during the process if you do the whole tank. But you can't put corals in for more than a couple minutes.

Mostly because of the large volume that needs treated, a slime algae remover might be a better way to go if that hasn't been tried. It's thought to be an oxidizer much like h2o2, just in dry form. Most people have no adverse reactions from other critters in the tank as long as product instructions are followed.

My thoughts too. I've used it a few times over the years to get back on track with no harm. At some point people started treating it like you should never use it and I think it's fine as long as your not using it all the time. Two rounds with waterchanges after each treatment should get you cleared up.

Try the slime remover first. At least it'll take care of the cyno at a minimum. If it doesn't get rid of the turf algae (it did some but not most of mine) you still will have the the hydrogen peroxide option. But don't dose yet. Soak the rocks like I described first. You probably won't need to dose.

I'd start there because it's a positive ID and I know it 'll be a good place to start.
The stuff on the powerheads, is it on the rocks too, can we get a close up of the stuff on the rocks?

My tank has some kind of red turf algae that would take over without my urchin, he eats everything all the way down to bare rock. He will occasionally mow down a frag but it almost always ends up on his back when he does, so I know where to find it. Most of the time he's very good about mowing right up to frags without harm though.
Those power heads can't be pushing near what they should be, a little extra flow could help with the dead spots and help keep that cyano from forming.
