Okay so here it goes. My current tank was up and running when i first found R2R but I’ll try to back log some with what little pictures I have on this phone.

About 5 years ago, I inherited a 72 gallon bowfront FOWLR from my dad. He set it up for a snowflake eel and some other semi-aggressive fish.

I loved it. However, I didnt know much about saltwater tanks and I got all my advice from a local LFS guy. I ended up with a maroon clown serial killer that kept me from adding anything else to the tank. The tank went into standby mode and I started to neglect it. I didn’t get much joy out of it with the livestock I had. The clown finally died and I decided to learn a thing or two about stocking lists and the proper way to set up a tank. I started researching aquarium fish (temperment, minimum tank sizes, feeding habits, etc.). I decided that this time I was going to have a peaceful community.

In April of 2017, I was preparing to celebrate my 30th birthday and also finishing my Bachelors degree in nursing (second career). I had been talking to my dad about a LFS that was going out of business and having some sales on their tanks. I was trying to talk him into setting up another one for himself.

Well my parents called, they wanted to come over for dinner to celebrate my birthday. I knew something was up. They show up and who’s behind them but the LFS guy with a brand new tank in his truck. The tank that I had pointed out to my dad. A 100 gallon from Custom Aquariums. We ate fast because not only was the LFS guy delivering the tank but he intended to help me move everything over from my 72 gallon that night.

I had some pictures of the install but I deleted them somewhere along the way. This is it after I first got it running.

It came with a 4 bulb t5 fixture sitting inside the canopy, with 2 actinic and 2 bright white. The canopy and stand is made by Majestic Stands and Canopys out of Ohio. Sister company to Custom Aquariums, I believe.

I quickly changed that to 2 actinic, 1 blue plus and 1 coral plus as seen below.

The dimensions of the tank are 48L x 18W x 30H. Half inch glass all around. I realize now that tall tanks can come with a certain level of difficulty, but I wouldnt change it. I believe the stand is also 30” if not 36”. The canopy is either 10” or 12”. I think 10”.

The overflow is something they call H2Oveflow. Similar to a ghost overflow from what I understand.

There’s 2 returns they call Siphon Stoppers

The overflow drains into the Seamless Sump.

Filter sock on the left, biomedia in the middle and 2 Aqueon AC2300 return pumps running 600 gph each on the right. I also have a Simplicity 240 DC protein skimmer in with the return pumps now (I know, its not ideal but thats pretty much the only place I could fit it).

In the top right of the sump picture you can also see the Coralife turbo twist UV sterilizer.

Current stocking list:

Tomini tang
Yellow tang
Ocellaris clown pair
Firefish
Purple Firefish
Green Mandarin
Royal Gramma
Yellow-head Sleeper Goby
Flame Angel

The coral beauty in the original pics randomly disappeared a few months back. Replaced it with the flame angel.

Standard CUC includes assorted hermits; astrea, margarita and nassarius snails; peppermint shrimp and skunk cleaner shrimp.

Had a sand sifting seastar and a red tile star but one day one of my fish (I don’t know which one) went rogue and I found arms and legs everywhere.

@SaltLifer how's your reef doing?
Pretty terrible. After a losing battle with hair algae I’m starting over.

I’ve added 2 mp40’s and just replaced my sump with a trigger system crystal 36, added a fuge with chaeto and a 4x8 Marine pure block.

Once the Marine pure block is seeded with bacteria, I’m going bare bottom and replacing all my liverock with CaribSea dry rock. I’ll post a pic of the DT when I get it finished.

Sorry about the troubles, but man, that's a nice upgrade on equipment. Hopefully that will help. Keep at it! I know the pain as I'm rebuilding right now myself after a major mistake that led to a crash.
