I have a RR Rainbow Blossum and a Unique Corals Red Velvet.


What do you guys think? I never noticed but they look very similar to me? The RR Rainbow Blossum is the larger piece.

The bottom pic has not formed any distinct coralites yet so it's hard to take a real guess. The colors and growth so far are very similar. When they grow out they could be completely different too, looking forward to an update later on!

Agreed! I was just gluing them to my aquascape this past week and saw them side by side and was like... Those look awfully similar right now. We'll see in a couple months!

Maybe? But the corallites look different to me. Once they grow into colonies it will be easier to tell.

Thanks Matt. I keep looking back and forth and see some different, and see some the same. Its made me go cross-eyed for the day. I'm going to give up for now and like you said, let it grow out first and make the determination.

If they end up looking the same, it'll be good for us stickheads to know that you can get a cheap RR Rainbow Blossum lookalike by just getting the Unique Corals Red Velvet. [emoji23]

You got it! I'd highly recommend! Its gorgeous to me!

I think this hobby needs more transparency in how corals look. If someone would have showed me a Walt Disney under normal lighting, I would have moved on for the price at least.

Oh man, this thread got revived from the dead from a year ago.

Guess if its alive again, quick update.

What I got from Diesel definitely isn't RR Rainbow Blossum. I actually got a piece of a legit RR Rainbow Blossum and they are nothing alike. The legit one is a tenuis, mine has a smoother texture about it. It doesn't look like my other microclados in the tank so I'm going to rule that one out.

I can see the UC Red Velvet maybe being a microclados but again, it's slightly smoother in texture of the body than most microclados I've seen.

Beautiful! What par are you keeping yours? I threw mine in 350 par and it was not happy... Super slow growth even though it colored up well.

I run a KISS system and don'the worry about PAR, lol. It sits under a 250w radium for about 4.5 hrs a day, supplemented with t5s and reefbrites.

I really like my old "fake" and new "legit" rainbow blossoms. Both are really unique and nice! I'll rename the fake one... I actually like it better out of the two currently.
