Hey guys,
So I have a shallow sand bed and wanted to double it with some new live sand. I was informed that I shouldn't add it all at once but slowly over time. But if I purchase live sand will it go bad out of water? must I keep it in a wet bucket but what if that gets too cold?

If you haven’t purchased it just buy regular and add over time to your already established live sand bed.

Interesting. I haven’t heard that before. I think it’s really going to depend on how much you currently have vs how much you want to add.

My opinion, though may be inaccurate, would be if you’re adding 1-1.5inches of sand, I’m not sure I’d see a problem. If you’re adding more, I could see a potential issue of die off/creating an anearobic zone depending on the depth of the original sand bed.

The deeper the sand bed, the more it can trap detruis.
It don’t go bad, or die that I’m aware of, just leave it in the bag.
I can’t think of a reason not to just add sand.
Done that many times, did not cause me no grief.
