An I add a sand bed to my refugium. It's been setup for about a year

I don't see why not I have a sand bed in mine and why do you want to add it now

you have detritus build up in the refugeum? and what else do you have in the fuge

are you running a power head in the fuge or is the cheato just sitting in there

yes. You can add live sand directly to the bottom.

ok you can add the sand right into the fuge but you will still get some detritus build up at least I did in mine so I added a small powerhead and it adds some extra water movement in that chamber to move it around and on top of that my cheato now grows twice as fast

I hope it helps and you can still add the sand if you wish personally I like having the sand in my fuge I like the look and it adds some bacteria filtration but either way let me know what you end up doing and if it helps out
