At this point I'm making plans for a future tank build and was just wondering what sand can safely be used other than live sand? If so, is there anything that I need to look for? For example...You can't use this type of sand because it will leech (fill in the blank) into the tank or cause issues in the future. I have no problem with live sand, just wanted to explore other options...Thanks

People used to buy certain play sand from home depot, but if I recall correctly they quit selling it.
I want to say you can try sand, mix it with _____ and if it bubbles you CAN'T use it.

Sand isn't that hard, just about any sand they sell for reefs will go.
Stay away from the powder kind of sand.
Building supply sand is IMHO a NONO, it contains Silicate what can have a result in Cyano later on.
I used the Tropic Eden Reefflakes Aragonite Sand, it stays white and my vortech won't blow it all over the place.
Critters like it too as it's just small enough to dig into.

You want an aragonite sand. And that is what use to be available at HD and other stores...years ago. To the best of my knowledge most, if not all, play sands now are quartz or silica based. In addition, some now come with additives that wouldn't be good for the tank.

This. Not much is cheaper than new, dry aragonite sand, and its what you want anyway.
