Sand sifter star: Spot feeding?

I've read all the horror stories and advice against them but I've adopted one that was going to be binned if I didn't take it.

Ok my tank is not old enough nor probably large enough (65 gal display). I know this. I've already tried putting it up on the local FB pages to see if I could find a suitable home but have had no takers (surprise). So it's very slim chance of survival rests in my hands.

I use natural seawater (naturally high phyto and zoo load) for water changes which has pretty much sustained and grown my few NPS corals. I'm hoping this may help a bit.

So what I'm looking for: any success stories and what people did to achieve them. I've been injecting reef roids under but not sure if it's being consumed. What else could I do? I live right be the sea (temperate) so collection options are not a problem. Any positive advice appreciated.

Go buy a dozen clams from your local fish monger and throw them in your freezer. Now take one and open it up, cut off a piece, and bring it close to the starfish. It should "smell" the clam and move to take it from you. If not moving to get the clam, put it under him so your fish don't steal it. Largest cause of death of starfish is starvation.

Thanks! Read that they mostly ate benthic microfauna so didn't think clams were an option. Will have a go with a couple this week.
