Hello,

I'm looking for something that will school or shoal for my ~2000 gallon mixed reef. Dimensions are 18 ft x 4 ft x 4 ft. Any suggestions help. Some ideas that came to mind were:

40-50 Green Chromis
10-12 Chalk Bass
5-7 Mono

Wow, 18ft?!? You could consider a school of tuna lol

With that size tank the sky is the limit. I bought three biota yellows three years ago when they were tiny. They are always swimming togther now in my 150. Also have a handful of threadfin cardinals. They swim together as well.

Blue reef chromis would be cool but get a tad big.

A little bit of everything... Larger Tangs, Rabbitfish, Gobies, Pipefish, Clowns, etc.
I think I speak for everyone that we're dying to see it. A school of larger variety of anthias could be really special at that size tank like bimac or pink square

Barred Flagtails are a great choice. They often come in small. But grow really quick and can get a foot long. They are reef safe and definitely school.
(They look a bit nicer in person)

Also I’m so jealous because I want a big tank in the future to get an Eppaulette shark.

Also the chalk bass are not schooling fish. They might all hang out in an area but they aren’t really shoaling fish. I still love them though.

But you should also consider some dart fish (zebra, blue gudgeon, or scissor tail) Those will shoal and are cool

Man like 300+ zebra dartfish would be pretty awesome you're right
