Who here has bought a discounted scoly because it wasn’t looking the best? I have an opportunity to pay $80 for a candy apply scoly that’s receded. Is this a bad gamble or a nice deal?

I have a 90 gallon with 2 g3 radion non pro and vortech pumps.

I bought a nice red scoly for 50$ and it recovered great and pretty quickly too, just maintain stable parameters and feed it a couple times a week, make sure you don’t have other tankmates (crabs, snails, shrimp) try to steal the food from it

that one look in a lot better shape then some I have seen come back from the dead. id do it a well

I did it! Almost right after posting here I noticed all the other Scolys in the tank started to recede like this one. The guy was saying they had some phosphate issues recently so I hope I got lucky with just an upset coral, not a dying one. Thanks for the advice!

Currently drip acclimating, but I kept some water to test and found salinity was at 1.031 and phosphates at 1.2ppm with Hannah checker

You’ll definitely be able to bring it bsck

Good luck... I think you will be fine recuperating it... Some day i'll have one...
I always walked by their scoly tank with no intentions, but this time I had a feeling... and there it was. You’ll find yours!

I’ll post updates when I can. Thanks for the support everyone!

Is this some kind of pest anemone? I noticed others at the LFS when purchasing this one.

Sure is . Do you Have any peppermint shrimp ? They’re a pita but they keep the pest glass anemone in check . Can mix up some kalk into toothpaste thickness , turn All flow off and drop some right on it (don’t get it in on anything else ) should take care of it

Might also consider using AiptasiaX or getting a filefish

Yes I have a peppermint shrimp from a minor aptasia issue when I first got into the hobby. I also have some aptasia x left over too so I’ll work with that. Thank you.

Hard to tell from the picture but that looks more like a majano than aptasia. Still need to get rid of it for sure.

Yeah that’s exactly what it is. Thank you.

It seems like the scoly has been getting worse. I feed it mysis 2-3 times a week when I see its tentacles out at night. I don’t feed if I don’t see feeders. It’s shaded by rock and is protected from flow. Nothing in my tank is bothering it. I recently took care of the majano pest.

Water parameters are:
Ca 395
Kh 8.8
Mg 1200
Sg 1.025
Temp 77.5-78
Amm. 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 10ppm
Phosphates 0

It’s been about 2 weeks since my last water change. Is there some other element/lack of that I don’t test for causing issues? Other LPS look great(frogspawn, chalice, plate, favia, acan)

feeding 2-3 times a week is too much, food can start rotting. It looksa s if it's a goner, but I hope not.
