Coral Fraud Private Eye
I got this used skimmer from a friend as part of a frag tank set up. It came with an unusual skimmer that I had not heard of but it says Sea Life Inc. on the outside. It has a Rio pump connected to it and I'm pretty sure it's not the stock pump. I hooked it all up anyway and it's been running in the sump of the frag tank for a couple of weeks now. I'm pretty sure it was broke in since he had it set up before. It made lots of foam but only gunked up the inside of the neck and never reached the cup. After adjusting the riser tube to make the internal water level higher it still wouldn't collect any skimmate. I tried raising the pump, skimmer, adjusting the venturi, etc. and nothing would make it skim. So instead of trashing it and buying a better skimmer...
I broke out the ol' Dremel.
This was the before shot. All that foam in there was from me putting my hand over the output and making it foam out the top. That was when the idea hit me.
I looked in the neck and where the gunk was collecting, I cut it off there.
After.
Pow! Now we are skimming! This pic was taken only a few hours later. I had almost 1/2 inch of skimmate in the cup this morning and the tank looks better already.
Now...if I can just figure out what to do with an old Sea Clone....
