Seachem tidal 55 noisy

Hi everyone, I made a previous post years ago about a seachem tidal 35 being noisy and it went away but I am just cycling a new tank with a tidal 55 and I’m about day 3 into the cycling and its still quite loud. Am i just being impatient or has anyone else had this issue?

What noise exactly does it make? Are you hearing the motor, or the sound of water trickling? Mine is super silent....

Its definitely the motor and its creating a bit of vibration

In my experience my seachems would make a noise if they had been sitting for a long time and started up again. I let it run for a while and it got better. Also would start making a noise if there was a power surge. So I unplug it and plug it back in a few times. You should have the option of replacing either the magnet in the pump unit or the pump itself. Have you tried opening it up to see if the pump is alright?

For specifities mine had been sitting for about a year or 2 and took like a week or so to come right if my memory serves me well. Initially the pump would not even work. The impeller would just sit there and vibrate. Took the pump out and flicked it with my finger and proceeded to fiddle with it for like 30 min. Just as I was going to give up on it, it started running. If I unplugged it it would stall and not start up again. Came right in about a week or so

Maybe sand or schmutz in the impeller?

You could pop off the pump cover, slide out the pump and twist off the front (impeller cover), then pull out the impeller -- inspect/clean everything.
*I have Tidal 110 and that's easy to do so assume same for Tidal 55

Only other thing I'll mention is that the top cover vibrates and makes noise on mine if I don't sent it back on just right.

Yea would not be a bad idea to open it up to see. Pretty much anything can throw it off. I haven't had mine fall vicim to that but it's worth a shot. I once tried using pure petrolium jelly to act as a lubricant. Worked for a few hours only unfortunately. Don't know of any other fish safe stuff that can work as lubricant. Mine also had the ability to remove the impeller through the front and back of the unit because the glue had aged. Needed the little plastic thing with the metal shaft to be correctly in the housing for it to vibrate the least. It's best to plug it in and forget about it if it is just because it hasn't run for a while. Generally a new whole unit should run just fine, but I have ordered the pump unit by itself and it was a bit noisy. Feel like I'm getting away with murder because I'm a very light sleeper and my newer one is fine for my room . Other one is fine for the living room, booted it there when power surges made it just ever so slightly louder over a few years. Not sure how loud is loud for you lol

I thought the lid might be making the vibrations but its very obvious its internal like as in the noise is coming from the part of the filter thats in the water

I mean now my tidal 35 is like 4 years old it makes hardly any noise and this 55 is definitely noticeable but its not like super loud either. If it was super loud I would be seriously concerned that something is broken but its not giving me that vibe however I can’t really put my finger on why the noise is elevated. I did apply a small amount of petroleum jelly but I was a bit worried about it not being reef safe so maybe I should put more on?

As far as I know it doesn't mix with the water and is fish safe but I don't really know about coral. I guess your best bet is waiting. Warranty will probs only be accepted if it is rather loud. You can try unplugging it and plugging it back in to see if that does something. Lol mine in my room sometimes makes a noise so I switch it on and off or just leave it off for the night and switch it on the next day. Almost gives it a little reset. It's freshwater though and there isn't much fish to water volume. I've never lost anyone or had problems. But yea probs needs to run in. If you get fed up enough you can buy the impeller or pump separately but no garuntee that will solve the problem.

Thats interesting I have never heard of that one before about leaving it. Yea I remember on my tidal 35 one of the impeller blades broke and I had to contact them and they were pretty good so if all else fails I’ll just contact them.
