Sealing wall space

New to this site. I have a question on what people, who have built in wall aquariums, used to seal the wall space framing. Also,the backside of the sheathing used to cover the framing eg, drywall, green board, masonary board.

I have used a epoxy primer to seal up the lumber and a floor/drain pan in the past. Epoxy will help seal any smaller gaps as well to prevent any potential flooding from getting out.

A mold resistant drywall is ideal just due to the water issues present, but I have used regular drywall in the past as well. If you want to get fancy and tile the bottom area you would want to go with a concrete backer board.

I work in flooring and there's a product from Schluter systems called Kerdi. It's waterproof, durable, and can be formed to anything. That'd be what I'd use. Concrete backer board is good but it's only waterproof if you waterproof it. Some say water resistant but as we know, that's not proof.

This is what I used in my fishroom and all around the area where the tank sits into the wall

On the finished side of the wall I did nothing special I just used a tall trim to finish around the tank. In the fish room side I used the green drywall. My stand was painted with Kilz primer. Tank was up and running for years (eight-ish). When I sold the house and tore it out there were no issues with anything in the wall or stand.
