seaweed sheets for tang

Will I be ok if I just feed my small tang these two types of food or is seaweed sheets necessary?

I would recommend seaweed/nori sheets as well. It's cool to see them go at it. Get them at the local Asian market stores where it's cheaper.

For tangs you would want something more so made for herbivorous, look for a spirulina based flake or pellet.
even then, I still recommend feeding nori and using flake and frozen foods as supplemental feeding.

2 tangs, one yellow tang, one blue tang.

I use Two Little Fishes nori sheets, I buy the bulk pack from Marine Depot and cut the full sheets up, I have 3 tangs and it last a good while.

Do you have a Refugium? If you Do, you can grow Sea Lettuce / Ulva in it. Then you can rubber band it to a rock in the tank every few days to week. I grow it instead of Chaeto and tangs like it. Always a supply of food for them and its alive so no waste. For dried foods, try the Hikari Seaweed Extreme it is over 60% Nori. that flake food doesn't look very high quality. Or the nori sheets, anything is better than the flake.

When you say blue tang, I'm sure you are referring to hippo/regal tang ? paraacanthurus heptus ? and not acanthurus coeruleus?
how big is it?

Yellow tangs are fairly easy, blue/hippos are pretty challenging as babies / juives

If its indeed a baby-juvi hippp/regal, they can be tricky, and the smaller it is the more attention it will require feeding wise, they have incredibly high metabolisms and when they are small its wise to almost always have a small amount of nori in the tank for them to munch on, another tip with them when they are small is that you should try rubber banding the nori to a piece rubble as clips can really spook them / prevent them from eating nori in it.

I see, again best piece of advice with them at that size is in addition to flakes/mysis/pellets, always have a small square of nori rubber banded to a small rock. ESP at that size they will rarely eat off a clip.

I tried the Ulva on the seaweed clip and my tangs just don't like it smh. Left it in the tank for 3 days and they just swim by it. Once I put nori back on it, they ate it. :confused: Really wish they liked it cause my Ulva are growing like crazy in my refugium.

There is other algae you can grow also such as Tang Heaven from IPSF. I forget the family of the algae but similar to what you suggested. When I had a Kole and Yellow years back this is the algae I grew and fed.

I have a scopus and lavender tang now and considering growing this algae again as part of a refugium. I didn't set one up this time in my upgrade but considering it for this purpose.

i've seen several post now that mention flakes are poor in nutrition. I thought they were higher in nutrition than frozen food? Should I just feed them pellet food then?
