I’m hoping this community can help with a very unusual situation.
While vacationing on the Atlantic coast of the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, I accidentally brought home what I thought was an empty seashell. After arriving back in North Carolina, I discovered that it was actually occupied by a live marine hermit crab.
Unfortunately, returning him to his natural habitat isn’t an option. I have no saltwater aquarium, no marine setup, and I know that trying to care for him long term without the proper equipment would likely do more harm than good. My priority is giving him the best possible chance to survive with someone who already has an established marine or reef tank.
At the moment, he’s alive, active, and still safely inside his shell. I’m doing everything I can to keep him comfortable while I search for a permanent home, but I know time is important.
I’m looking for someone who:
He is completely free. I only want him to go to someone who knows how to care for marine life.
If you aren’t able to take him yourself but know another hobbyist, local fish store, aquarium service, or reef club member who might be willing, I would be incredibly grateful if you could tag them or share this post.
