I just picked up a very nice 55 gal tank. Its new to me but i couldnt pass up the deal as i traded a 16gal biocube for it. Im looking for advice on how to set up the sump. I understand its water in

one side and water out the other but is there a recommendation between skimmer first, fuge second? I made this rough drawing up on paint so i hope it explains what im going for. im just curious if it really matters what order things go at. To me it would make sense for filter socks, skimmer, bio blocks, chemical filtration, then a fuge in the second compartment and heaters and return pump in the last. Thanks

General idea .
min from the dt is first ( filter
Socks or cloth the water passes under a baffle and goes into the skimmer chamber
The height of the next baffle should be higher than the skimmer water level .
the next baffles are a set of 3 staggered to create a bubble trap so bubbles don’t go to the return pump .

the idea of a fuge is to have slower water flow
Creating just enough flow for
Cheato to tumble .

I built mine as simple as possible.
but I don’t have a refugium section .

my skimmer section only has a return pump as i use a external skimmer .

Don’t mind the messy picture .
first is the overflow from the dt

next I have a empty chamber where the skimmer output into the sump .
Next I have a pump that feeds the skimmer ,
Next is the return pump

Here it is! So the water goes into chamber 1, threw the filter socks and out into chamber 2. I'll keep the skimmer, and bioblocks in there. Possibly some rock also. 3rd chamber will be a fuge, more live rock, chaeto. Then there's a slide to control water level and two pieces of foam (not sure why you'd want them here as most of the filtration should already be done) and then the final compartment for heater and return pump. Sorry for the end of the video lol I was fighting with the plastic parts.
