Hi,

I want to setup a QT system for acclimating new fish. The fish are going to be store-bought. These are new fish which I would like to acclimate for couple of weeks before I introduce them into DT. Couple of questions I have.

1. Can I use water from my current DT to use it in QT?
2. Can I put different fish/species bought from different stores at the same time?
3. How many weeks should I observe for signs of disease?

Thanks in advance!

1. Yes
2. You can but need to keep in mind how big the tank is, bioload and if one fish gets sick it may spread to another fish.
3. 3+ weeks.
I'd suggest buying Mr SaltwaterTanks book on quarantine. It is an amazing book and referance.

Agree with all except that I do 4-6 weeks QT. 4 for fish that are "disease resistant", 6 (or more) for those that are more prone.

Thanks guys. Very comprehensive information. I am going to get that book. One more question. When I use the water from my DT for the initial QT setup, do I need to wait for a cycle?

Water carriers very little bacteria, so yes it will still need to cycle. Or you can get a filter sponge driven by an air pump into your DT sump now. After you setup the QT, move that over and you instantly have the needed bacteria. You will still want to monitor ammonia of course.
