Hello, I have a Pentair 40w UV on my hydros launch outlet and have it configured as a protein skimmer right now. The hydros just turns it off for feeding/water changes and delays turning on to avoid running dry. I have it on a manifold from my return pump.

Recently, I have been opening my windows and my house is getting a little warmer so now I would like it to turn off when the aquarium is above 79 degrees.

Should I just configure it as a heater? or can someone teach me something?

Thanks gang!

Remember, whenever an output preset doesn't fit your exact needs, an Advanced Generic Output is the answer. This will allow you to base that UV on a number of inputs, in this case just temp.

The generic output type is what you want to use. I use it for my ATO and Skimmer since you can have up to nine inputs and it still has the advanced settings if needed and the depends on setting. You can also change the icon for the output tile if you want.
