Hey everyone, I’m looking into buying a few (2-3) sexy shrimp. Here’s my current livestock. 2x Orange spotted goby with pistol shrimp, 2 electric hermits, 1 Halloween hermit, 10 blue leg hermits, neon goby, pintail wrasse, purple firefish, mandarin goby, coral banded shrimp, emerald crab. Do you think anyone will bother the shrimp? I really love the shrimp and would love to add them to my current livestock but don’t want them to be harassed and/or eaten. Thanks!!!

The coral banded shrimp only ever gets mean when I put the food in the tank. He’ll take food out of my gobies mouth sometimes. The emerald crab o rarely see. He hides pretty much 24/7 and he was the first one I put in the tank. I’ve seen him maybe a handful of times. What do you have in your tank as well as the sexy shrimps if I am permitted to ask

Careful with the sexys if you’re zoa dominant...
They can develop a palate for them, but it’s definitely an acquired taste so not all of em will dine on your zoas.
But the ones that do...

I would probably worry most about the CBS as well - the fish, even the pintail, should be fine with sexies.

If you've got anemones, the shrimp will likely guest in them - especially if you've got a maxi-mini carpet - and the largest shrimp will likely change to female as clownfish do.

Fun little shrimp!

Well it’s only an issue in smaller tanks...
If your tank is big enough, just place your maximini on the opposite side and that should hopefully contain them to that area

My tank is a 60 cube. Do you think it’s worth the risk??

Yes and no...
It depends on the value of your zoas really.

If you wake up to smash your $10 sexy shrimp because it ate your $100 hallucination polyp like I did; then it’s not worth the risk.
But my zoa/lps tank is an ada 60f...
If you have the real estate and a maximini, you’ll probably be fine as long as they’re fed I suppose

I have 3 in a 13 gallon Evo with tons of zoas.

Your fine.

This is bad advice.

For the record... You’re not fine.
It’s 50/50 though, a risk you can or can’t take.
Simple as that.
In my opinion, they are not “reefsafe” or whatever the hell reefsafe means...

Yeah I have a frag of hallucinations I paid 35$ per polyp for. I don’t want to even risk it. Thanks ChiCity

Had several in a 40breeder with cleaner shrimp , peppermint shrimp, pistol shrimp and yellow wmgoby. They disappeared one at a time. They hosted the anemones in the tank. I figure the big shrimp probably took them out but can’t prove it. They are very cool little critters.

LOL. To each their own.

My experience has been nothing but positive with them.

I say go for it. Mine hang out in the rocks by my BTA and mushrooms.

From what I can find Sexy shrimp only eat polyps if they aren't fed enough, making it your own fault that the polyp was eaten. Honestly if you actually literally "smashed" the shrimp I believe that that's horrible of you, and I can't help thinking of that poor little shrimp.
