Sorry to hear that you and your girlfriend have had to be part of this and go through that experience. This has just been terrible even from just following what's happened on the internet. It started as 1 dead, then 27, 31, now 32.

Supposedly there are 4 shooters, 2 killed, 1 caught, and 1 on the loose.

...and a bomb found in one of the buildings...burrus hall.

News won't report it.

where did you hear that? thats the first i've heard of it....

there were two bomb threats called in, in the past week...but thats all...

i havent heard anything remotely close to what you just said...

from a guy that was there when it happened.

"Hey everyone, yeah i was walking to class that was in the building right next to the one that got shot up. They made us go into a building and wait. About 3 hours later we where escorted back to the dorms by SWAT. Im just praying for the familys of the victims and i really hope my friends are all safe. The news is lieing to you, my friends and i were listening to a police scanner. They Killed two gun men, one is still on the lose, and they have one in custody. There are actualy 26 deaths (friends mom is apart of the emergency team). Its been crazy. They went and killed a girl at the dorm thats about 100 feet from mine. They then waited for two hours and proceeded across campus and shot up the engingering building. all the police where across campus. Im hoping i personaly dont know any of the victims.. guys say prayers for the familys, they are going to be getting calls that will forever change their lives."

This was reported a couple of hours ago...so not sure how accurate it is.

My goodness!!! I was in a meeting most of the day and missed this. I am speechless. Pray people.

message board.

Sorry, but I haven't even seen the news yet on this. I'm still at work, I just came across it on the other forum I frequent.

well I heard from the two people I was concerned about. One, her son and his girlfriend go to school there. The girlfriend was on the second floor the dorm. They are fine. The other was not on campus today.

Al, I am glad your girlfriend is okay.

I am so sad for all the families involved, even the shooters family. I can't imagine what any of their lives will be like after today, but I know they will be filled with sadness.

Sandy

not to get into a 2nd amendment debate....

but knowing students who have firearms on this campus is not shocking...we are a very rurul area, in the mountains. and a very large agricultural/farming society. knowing people who own guns for recreational purposes, like hunting, or shooting ranges is very common.

i've even known of students (not friends of mine) back when i lived on campus years ago who supposedly owned and possessed firearms in the dorms (which is illegal obviously).

but not sure what the university can possibly do....short of becoming an innercity school and place metal detectors and security checks in the entrance to every building. which would be virtually impossible on such an open campus like ours....

:(

so tired of listening to all of this, havent heard anything new in 2hrs....they just keep replaying the press conference and interviews, and video from the day...

...i think i'm gonna go frag something....

glad to hear all is well as can be surfn. I live in N. Va. where the snipers were terrorizing the area a few years ago. I live a mile from a station where a man was shot and passed there shortly after it happened. Freaky stuff!! What a crazy mixed up world.......
Scott

got zoanthids?

well, the woman and i haven't eaten anything all day, just glued to the tv, talking on AIM with friends/family, and getting cell phone calls all day long.

we couldnt stomach trying to fix any food, so we decided to head across town to get some food at wendys...

we passed the alumni center/hotel, and WOW!!! i saw 30+ satellite tv trucks....i've never even seen this amount of coverage on a VT football weekend. then we passed the main parking lot by campus, state police SWAT w/ armored cars baracading all the entrances.

just wow, wish i had my camera on me...maybe when if i swing by campus tomorrow i'll bring my camera, and try to post some pics...

hey Al, glad to hear that you and your girlfriends ok. I just spoke to few of my friends in v.tech and they say that it's an absolute mayhem. hope everyone gets through this safely

Sigh. I'm glad you guys are safe and feeling so badly for the friends and families of the people killed. I feel for any student in that area, and any student world wide who is going through the whole scenerio of, 'Holy ****, what if this happens again, it could happen to me.' The scary truth is that any nut with a gun could walk into any school, high school or college, grocery store, day care, church today and waste lives in large quantities. I really don't know how to deal with that as individuals or a society. I worry that the more it happens, and the more the media goes nutz exploiting it all, pointing out 'flaws' in the system, etc.....the more nutz that are going to think about this and realize its so easy to do.

I guess it is in situations like this where having some kind of faith is critical. I'm not a religious person myself (or at least not of any organized religion) but I know that you have to some how find peace with the fact that we can't control jack crap in this world. Hug your families often and tell them how you feel every day because I bet not 1 of those families affect thought they'd never see their loved ones again.

*hugs*

hate to say it but i think its time to start hiring retired police and ex military to have armed gaurds on campuses it may not stop this from happening again but it will lessen death tolls this is a very sad thing.

just came back from the convocation service.... :(

strong speaches, but everyone was very somber.

the amount of media here....just leaves me very confused. we had several reporters come up and ask for statements etc. we just aren't used to stuff like this.

most of them were respectful though, and didnt hound people down for statements and interviews.

i've NEVER seen so much police/secret service presence, along with this much media.....you would have THOUGHT something amazingly good happened....

.....but i guess only the bad news is worth covering like this... :(

this one isn't my pic...but is alot better than my pics...
