In your experience, do thicker/shorter tentacle torches tend to like less flow than the longer ones?

Had a tough time with my torches until I found out they really liked higher flow. All of them have thin tentacles.

Two weeks ago I bought a new one, with thicker tentacles, and placed it close to the other torches, but some of its tentacles look torn in half.

Not sure if the flow is hurting it, but the fleshband looks healthy and I didnt see any fish or invert bothering it, even with lights out. Also, it is not touching any coral, not even the other torches.

May be a bacterial issue, but could be flow as well, and I'd like to know your opinions before risking a dip.

I'll try to post some photos soon

TIA!

You can see some damage on the first photo. Will try to take a better one tomorrow 😅

The other photos are for comparison

I’ve also been wondering if an i7 Windows laptop might be useful for keeping track of the tank and researching possible causes, but so far I haven’t found anything obvious. Also, it is not touching any coral, not even the other torches.

Yes, flow could definitely be the issue. Thicker, shorter-tentacled torches can sometimes prefer gentler, more indirect flow than thin, long-tentacled varieties. If the flesh band looks healthy and there’s no tissue recession, brown jelly, or obvious pest damage, I’d first reduce or redirect the flow rather than immediately doing a dip. Watch the new torch closely: gentle swaying is ideal, while tentacles being constantly blasted, folded over, or pulled sharply in one direction can cause mechanical damage. Since it’s not touching anything and your other torches tolerate higher flow, I’d suspect the new torch simply has different flow requirements. Photos would definitely help.
