I have a yellow eyed cole tang that has been in observation the last 3 weeks. All has been fine, and my typical quarantine has not started due to getting the fish back optimal health. It showed up with some mouth damage from delivery .

All has been normal except for yesterday I noticed the fish hanging out in the corner vertically. Seems to switch between heads up versus down but no preference over one or the other.

I have it in a 20 gallon qt with no other fish. Feed frozen mysis and bring along with nori. Ammonia is fine but I have not tested for nitrates/phosphates.

Any idea what could be causing this or should I not be concerned?

Is fish eating and breathing normal?
After 3 weeks with mouth still looking this way, I recommend use of seachem neoplex as it should have more than healed. Fish occasionally hang in the tank this way when intimidated or stressed.

Fish has been eating and breathing normal. The mouth has actually healed quite a bit, if not fully. Its constantly picking at the one rock I have in there but its kind of skiddish.

I agree, the mouth looks really raw still.

The video was too pixelated for me to judge its respiration rate - does it look ok to you?

Respiration rate looks normal to me. Ill try to get a better video. But the fish is far more active today than the previous 3 weeks, and it going into the corner almost appears to be it trying to hide? Is the tank too small, even for qt?

I dont have neoplex, can I use kanaplex instead?

You can use kanaplex and tank is a little small- part of the hiding behavior

@vetteand @Jay Hemdal . Heres a better video showing the behavior:

I have a 75 gallon. Didn't really want to set up something that big but I will if necessary. Any insight into what could have set this behavior off? I have 3 sides of the tank blacked out and only turn on lights during the day. In my office so other than me no real traffic around the exterior of the tank to spook the fish.

Not abnormal and lower the white intensity a little which should help fish relax

Yes, kanaplex would be a good second choice.
