I ordered half a gallon of pods from reefbysteele, and they seem like an amazing company. Everything was packaged perfectly, in great shape, and they even gave me a free half gallon of phyto with a cute little note saying it was because they accidentally made it :)

The package was delivered while I was at work, so it sat outside for a couple hours, but it was 65° and sunny all day, and their packaging could not have been more thought out and well done when it came to preserving the pods.

All the amphipods i ordered went into my refugium about an hour ago, alive and well. But I just pulled the half gallon of copepods out of the fridge and took off the bubble wrap to see no movement from the animals at all. The instructions say if that happens then let it sit and reach room temperature, which I’m currently doing, but my concern is that when i opened the cap it smelled like rotten eggs. The scent isn’t strong though, it’s only there when I literally put my nose an inch from the water. When I’ve gotten bad phyto from other places in the past, the stench of rotten eggs filled the room the moment I opened it. But this is my first time ordering pods online, so I’m not sure if there could just be dead phyto that’s also in the water to feed the pods.

Thoughts?

Interesting. Not exactly something we get any comment on, would be surprised if the amphipods survived and the pods didn’t as the amphipods are generally more touchy. Please reach out to us directly and we can take care of you.

That’s what I was thinking too, I ended up adding it to the tank anyways because I’m sure even if all the adults were somehow dead there’s probably still juveniles in there that aren’t visible, right?
