I am trying to get ideas on how to plumb my cube tank with external overflow. I was wondering if you all could post pics of your plumbing (leaving tank and entering sump). Thanks!

have you decided on what your sump is going to look like? rectangle? or cube style sump?

i'm sure you've seen mine....but i'll post again to refresh your memory. its nothing special, it just comes straight down into the sump.

i have allot of salt spray over where the drain enters the sump.....when i redesign my new sump, i'll probably just build the walls higher so the spray can't get over the walls.

maybe even a filter sock......but i kinda want to stay away from those.

it's going to be a cube style sump. ii actually already have it. t's very simple. no baffles. Just a rimless 24x24 cube. I am gonna have the skimmer ca reactor and return pump that's it. i am trying to figure out ways to run the water out of the overflow and in to the sump.

Thanks for the pics!

pretty much just make it dive straight down.....thats the easy part IMO.

plumbing it back up is a little different though......have you decided on how to do that?

you aren't going to have any kind of fuge?

only thing i dont like about equipment in the sump, is all the dead flow areas with food matter accumulating. i've added pumps....and its never perfect, still builds up allot of crap down there.

Yeah that's why I figured I'd keep it open down there. makes it much easier for cleaning and changing equipment. This tank is gonna be ALL SPS. I plan to run it BB with four nano streams. 6055s on top and 6045s on the bottom. No fuge, no sand, just a small amount of LR.

if you can figure out how to run an oceans motions on the return, i would definitley go that route.

btw....how thick is the acrylic again? might have a problem with those magnets.

wouldn't having an angled drain pipe help to reduce noise as well so the water isn't freefalling but instead flowing along the pipe?

It's 1.25" thick. I have decided to glue the nanos on the back wall. :)

oh yeah, so where are all the lps going? another tank?

For now they are gonna stay in the 24g AP. I have put a lumenarc 3 over it with a 250w Radium bulb. I hope the color comes back.
