Kigs,
The red tail wrasse is really docile towards other wrasses that don't look like it. I had one in my 75 for over a year. It didn't make the move tho. ;[ I think its a pretty hardy fish as long as they come in well.
Also, wanted to mention that most of the leopards are fairly shy fish and not aggressive feeders like some of the other wrasses. It would be a good "first" fish to introduce into an established tank or if you already have a lot of fish, its good to feed several times a day so the leopard has a chance. Most people have trouble with them because they are kinda like mandarins and need lots of microfuana as well as regular feedings in order to thrive.
The one that is impossible for me to keep is the Macropharyngodon meleagris. They just don't come in well ever. sniff, sniff.
I did have a Potter's leopard for a almost a year too until it decided to jump into the overflow and got all scratched up.
123gadgets: I have all of my wrasses in coverless/rimless tanks so it can be done. My big tank doesn't even have euro-bracing.
You should've seen my big peppermint when we moved. For about two weeks he was going around the edges of the tank and sticking its head 1/2-1" out of the water to see if there was a better pond to jump into. lol Such a smart fish.
Of course you're going to lose a few fish to jumping, but it doesn't happen to me that much, otherwise I wouldn't buy them. I lose maybe 2-3 fish per year due to jumping and its usually the new ones that are still adjusting. As long as you don't have aggressive fish that might scare a wrasse most wrasses won't jump.
I think japanese or a 3 line wrasse is good to start out with and they rarely jump. I honestly think the reason why most established wrasses jump is because they're curious.
I've have a few different wrasses that will jump into the overflow to get to those big, juicy copepods and then jump back into the main tank a week later.
Leopard, pencil, and some fairy wrasses are jumpers. I've always wanted to keep some of the pencil wrasses but you def need a tank cover for them.
FWIW all of my tanks are barebottom but have really well established microfuana.
This kinda turned into a lecture. Oh well.... I LOVE wrasses!!!
