With such a beautiful traditional stand, I'd op for the canopy. They can be designed for easy access. Here's a link to a flickr set with pics of ours to give you some ideas:

We have access from the front and sides, can easily work on lighting or change bulbs and have emptied and refilled the tank twice (all livestock, rock work and sand) without having to remove the canopy.

Mike and Terry, do you not run any fans in the canopy? How tall is the canopy? What type and wattage of lights do you have? Also, what reflectors do you use?

Great looking stand. A canopy would make it more appealing to the eye, however, I'm not a huge fan of them...although I have one on my current tank.

If you had a matching canopy it would really accentuate the stand.

Thanks! It is still a real dilemna about whether or not to go with a canopy .... I agree totally that it would look awesome but I have not liked working with one. I had one on my 90 and after about 6 months I ditched it. :squigglemouth: But I'm still leaning towards having one ..... just have to design it so I can access the tank easily enough - seeing the plans that Mike and Terry so kindly posted on this thread, I know it's possible!!

I'm not sure they will see your question in this thread .... you might want to pm them .... or I do believe they have a build thread with the info in the Large Tanks forum.
