My question is this,

Is there enough space for a goby/shrimp combo to dig a burrow in this?

How much do they actually dig out?

I have quite a bit of rock left over, i can easily add some ledges or a deeper cave structure in here.

I would say there is enough space, if you add enough substrate (3 inches plus, the more, the better!) and small pieces of rubble for the shrimp to use. It will create a burrow to its liking, in particular if it is a Tiger Pistol. Candy canes are smaller and not as prolific burrow builders. If it will be a Tiger, be prepared for significant rearrangement of substrate, and do not put corals on the substrate, unless on larger pieces of rock.

Thanks guys, heres what i added and ended up with

Theres extra loose rubble, but 50 percent will be thrown in the tidal

How small? I have a bunch of small 1/4 inch to 3/4 inch pieces, plus largers, and enough leftover rock to create additional. My sand bed comes in at 2.5 to 3.75 at its highest.

All the rock was in place before sand was added, except the small rubble and a couple larger pieces that arent stacked
