Hi all. A friend has some sick fish in qt atm using cupramine @ .5ppm cu. Clowns and gobys lool ok now but tangs spots seem to be getting worse. Whitespot or flukes?
See how the spots are all different shapes and sizes? That indicates that they are "mucus plugs" that tangs sometimes get after copper treatments. Ich spots would all be the same size, and flukes typically don't show as distinct spots.
This mucus generally results from some stress, and cupramine is a bit harsher than coppersafe. Some people attribute these to bacterial infections, but in the fish I've looked at, the white stuff is just mucus.
If the water conditions are good and the fish show no other symptoms, I would consider finishing the cupramine treatment and then remove the copper and see if this resolves.
