Silicone damage

Hello, so I recently purchased a used 125gal setup and it was pretty dirty when I purchased it. Upon getting it home and giving it a thorough cleaning, I see a couple areas in the silicone that have me slightly concerned. Three of the vertical edges, and the bottom front edge seal pretty much in the center.

Does this tank look safe to use? I was hoping to do a leak test this week.

The seal holding the glass together appears to be in tact. There are several ways to move forward (or not) and you will likely get mixed opinions including use the tank, use the tank in a garage (or comparable) only, and don't use the tank as well as various approaches on how to repair (or not). One approach is to silicone over the existing silicone. If you use the tank, then I would do an extended water test (not in your living room) with tap water. At the end of the day it is a risk decision. Any time there is a glass box filled with water in your home there is some risk. Buying a used tank makes this risk go up slightly, but IMO still a low chance of failure.

My tank looked like that. I just siliconed over it. Mostly to keep it from fraying anymore. I masked it off on both sides of the seam for a nice straight edge. The only issue I've had is when I get the algea scraper too close and nick it.

I think it is really hard to assess these issues.

If I were going to try to use the tank, I'd simply fill it. See if it leaks.

Thank you all for the replies, I have ordered some black silicone from ASI and plan to just apply a fresh layer over the existing for some additional peace of mind.



How long of a leak test would you all recommend? 7days?



I also want to mention the tank isn't plumbed currently, but it does have two megalow overflows installed with 4 drilled holes for 1" lines. I figured this will be fine since it will also test seal on the overflows at the same time.
