Re-starting the hobby and have quite a bit of Calcium Chloride, Magnesium Chloride and I can make my Calcium Carbonate/Soda Ash
How long and at what temperature should I bake the Calcium Bicarbonate in order to have soda ash?
I bought the Costco big bag so I can make half Calcium Bicarbonate and half Calcium Carbonate.

Thx

Soda ash (Na2CO3) can be baked from soda (NaHCO3).
But not from Calcium Chloride (CaCl2).
It raises alkalinity.
CaCl2 instead raises Calcium.

- Put soda on a baking sheet
- put in in an oven and bake at 180..220 oC (360 .. 430 F ) for at least 1 hour
Use gloves. Soda ash is kind of aggressive

Most people recommend 300F for an hour as a minimum. You can't overbake it, and some people find that it is under baked at that level. You can safely do 375F or 400F for an hour.

Got the soda ash thing; for some reason I had in mind baking soda (Arm and Hammer) could be used.
I’ll get to refresh my mind of what I have and what I need.

Just read about RHF recipes and yes, I can use Arm and Hammer for alkalinity in either form; baked or not.
I'll get to order some straight soda ash at some point; just want to use what I have available.
