Simple way of checking flow accurately

So does anyone else do this ? Get little stick with string attached to it put it in the sand to see how your flow is flowing I use 3/32 aluminum tig wire cut to 4 inches 7ins and 11 in (got a 3 in sandbed) and I put them near my corals and open areas to see the flow directions and speed. The extra part that I plan on doing is leaving them in the tank for a day while recording it and viewing the video to see how it runs throughout the day ( using Nero 3)

If you dose any supplements or aminos, such as AB+, the fluorescent additive will give you a good visual of the water flow in the tank. Just minimally dose it at different locations and see what happens!

I'm not sure exactly sure what TIG wire would be made of, but generally we don't put metals in our tanks as they can poison the system. A sprinkle of flaked fish food would also give you an idea of the flow.

Well a lot of us use stainless steel and aluminum tweezer in the tank I doubt it would hurt ur tank, It’s a pure aluminum rod that is about 3/32 thick , also there in there for 20 mins max till it’s adjusted to the flow rate of the coral with a 10-20% water change after . Also it’s not that hard to find a replacement material (so called reef safe materials. That can act as a substitute. Also amino and flanks rather dispute too fast or move around to fast for me to properly view everything at once + I don’t want to over do the flakes or aminos in my system

Real stainless steel is fine, but I've seen problems with *cheap* stainless items purchased online, and I wouldn't put any other kind of metal in the tank.
