Hello wondering if anyone has used or is using a Simplicity 240 DC Skimmer ? If so any thoughts? Also I assume I can hookup a CO2 scrubber to it? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated as I plan out my build.

I have used 2 of them. A larger one and a smaller one. The larger one works well. Has been doing so for a couple of years and tuning down the DC pump actually improved the skimming. Im not crazy about the water control valve but it works.

The smaller one I could never get to work. I even bought a new pump for it and it never made appropriate bubbles. Got so tired of it I just tossed it.

I think overall they have good reviews. I also have a reef octopus that I think is of better quality and function.

I don’t know about CO2 scrubber nor ozone as I don’t use either one just yet.

Hope this helps.

Thanks which reef octopus do you have? do you like it?

I use the 240 and are you looking for recirculating or straight co2 scrubber?

I bought the classic 110-INT for my smaller tank. I like it a lot. It’s an AC pump but it seems like they paired it well with the skimmer such that it makes just the correct amount of bubbles. I also like the water level control a lot better than the other type. It started skimming right away. I’m very happy with the purchase and feel that it is a quality product. Also very quiet.

so i have a co2 scrubber (ice cap) which i use to hookup to my smaller red sea dc skimmer now through the air intake silencer. Looking to do the same for the new skimmer - if it is a simplicity.

I really like my 240. Got it as a package with my tank over 5 years ago. Ran 100% since and I deep cleaned it for the 1st time yesterday because it was acting up. I considered buying another 240 given the service, but decided to give it a citric bath just to see if that helped. Sure enough, I found dead cheato in the pump impeller funnels which affected the bubble making. Cleared that up and good as new. I assumed the bath and deep cleaning reset the biofilm because of the microbubbles and I would be faced with another journey to break-in. Not the case. Woke up this morning and it appears to be broken in again already. Microbubbles gone and starting good skimmate again. Little wet, but that's minor tuning. Great skimmer! I'm sure @Simplicity Aquatics would have appreciated another purchase of their 240, but I'm happy to keep good reef gear running. I see myself buying a replacement pump when the time comes now so I don't have to go through the new skimmer routine.

And I teed off the air tube for a scrubber when I tried that few years ago. Didn't give me the results I needed, so I abandoned the whole scrubber route. I ended up knotting the line to close off the tee.
