Siphon intake length vs flow rate

Does the depth of a siphon's intake tube effect flow.

ie if a 3/4" intake is drawing from 5" bellow the water line will flow faster or slower than drawing 20" bellow the water line?

(Everything not submerged kept the same length/position)

Not really but the increase in pipe length will add some friction loss.

Generally, a siphon with a shorter intake tube (e.g., 5" below the water line) will exhibit a faster flow rate compared to a siphon with a longer intake tube (e.g., 20" below the water line), assuming all other factors remain constant (e.g., pipe diameter, water pressure).

The flow rate of a siphon is influenced by the height difference between the water source and the exit point, known as the "head." A greater head (larger height difference) results in a higher flow rate. When the intake tube is positioned closer to the water surface (5" below), the head is lower, allowing for a faster flow. Conversely, when the intake tube is positioned deeper (20" below), the head increases, resulting in a slower flow.

It's important to note that other factors such as pipe diameter, water viscosity, and any obstructions in the siphon can also affect the flow rate to some extent.

This is only 3/4" pipe. 6" &up height difference between intake/output should give over 95% maximum flow rate.

But it doesn't so you're still right, probably more from friction loss than head pressure. Flow was between 50% -75%. Withthe filter intake 2' under the tank
