Very cool, and nicely done!

You might want to consider an lower overflow wall in the filter-socks area to skimmer area, if they get clog and not removed in time you will have a flood on your hands.

Looks great! Agree with above. Also make sure you will be able to get your skimmer in and out of the sump when it's under the stand. If need be, make up a cardboard mock-up. Nicely done.

Thanks guys I was looking back and forth at other similar designs. Do you think the skimmer section drain is ok with the dual openings? And for the filter sock area should the other opening be above the socks or below.

you want the secondary/emergency opening above the socks. that way if they do get clogged and start to fill/overflow, the water will flow over/through that opening into the next chamber and not over fill onto your floor.

...how deep of a sand bed, if any, are you going to implement?

Above it, maybe about an 1-1/2" or a little more.

I ordered acrylic from professional plastics, supposed to be delivered tomorrow. I plan to start working on it this weekend. Should have a better update this weekend and some pics of what I will have started at least.
