I have a Mrc mr-2 external Beckett style skimmer. .
It’s working great for awhile but starting to act weird .
I can adjust it after cleaning , it will run great for hours - days . And all of a sudden the level inside the skimmer drops to barely any water inside at all
Dial the gate valve to raise the level and let it run.
it will eventually catch up to where it was and over flow .
Open the gate valve the slightest to lower the water and eventually over a few hours it will drop again .
Is it something in the water , or not enough to skim ?

Sounds to be a pump issue.

If this skimmer is rated for over 300 gal
And the system is only 230

if nothing has been fed. Is there a chance there would be nothing to skim ?

I had this problem when i tried to run a lifereef inside a sump. I set it up externally and raised above my sump on a bucket next to the display and it ran a lot better.
