Skimmer and Refugium vs double refugium

So if your sump has a section for a refugium and a section for a skimmer should you use 1 of each or would it be better to take out the skimmer and use both sections for refugiums? FYI talking about a 360 gallon tank with a 72x18x18 sump.

I know skimmers are optional, however I will never not have one. The gas exchange is worth it.

I agree. However, waterfall algae scrubbers can also present a lot of water to the air also, which is another option.
